Winter Break

Winter break was quite the crazy little adventure this year.  (For those of you who don't remember, Jake gets a winter break AND a spring break--it's a New England thing, I think.)  Anyway, he was scheduled to speak at Camp Iroquoina and Allentown for a youth rally, and we were going to accompany him on both trips.  Things changed though.  The little guys got sick, and Eli was especially weezy with his breathing, so Jake went alone and picked us up for the second half of the journey to Allentown, PA.

We stayed with the Stoudt family, some friends from Greenwood Hills.  They were wonderful hosts to let their house be ransacked by two little guys under three! (and I failed to mention that these two little boys were still rather sick--and Josiah is WHINY when sick.)  We had fun at Crayola Experience, and I didn't take one picture--whoops!  Someone there, had the brilliant idea of creating exhibits where you could color a car and the walls (seriously?!).  Josiah came home and immediately started drawing on our walls.  We had plenty of discussion about how, "We don't write on walls."  Josiah's response?  "But God writes on walls."  Josiah, you are so slick.  ...I blame Crayola.  Anyway, we got these from the Crayola store; they fill in almost like a marker.  However, my fascination with Crayola's new product ended when a friend told me she used these in Korea years ago.

Here are the boys getting ready to go to a farm.  Josiah is super obsessed with boy accessories (like hats, sunglasses, ties)--that look was all his doing!

The couple that owned the farm, Mr. and Mrs. Rex, was extremely nice.  Mr. Rex collects old Allis Chalmers tractors.  Despite Josiah's face below, he really did enjoy his time.

Mr. Rex reminded me so much of my dad with all of his collecting, tinkering, and detailed stories about every tractor.

Next we went outside to see the calf.  I think he had just been weaned.

Here was one of the moms.

Wendy Stoudt had the special touch.

I guess Mike Stoudt did not. :)

And finally we saw the hens.  The hen in front was the only one brave enough to venture out in to the below-freezing temps!

The hens actually had their own hen house.

The other favorite part of the trip for the boys was the Stoudt's dog, Brittany.  Josiah convinced himself that he was afraid of her.  It became a game to see how often he could run away from Brittany screaming.

Eli, on the other hand, had fun crawling after and harassing poor Brittany.  I later realized that Eli just wanted to play with her jingling collar. She was a sweet dog and took all of the abuse attention with patience!
