Resurrection Rolls

We started a little Easter tradition with our boys last year.  My mom sent me a Pinterest link for a recipe for Ressurection Rolls.  Here's what we've done with our kiddos this year and last.

We started off by sharing the resurrection story with our kiddos.  We used these little t.p. roll people to help illustrate.  You can see the "grave" on our trashcan.  The link will explain things a little more, but Josiah loved seeing us "bury" Jesus in the tomb, only to discover His body was no longer there (mommy took it out when he wasn't looking).  They had fun reenacting the story too!

Next we made the resurrection rolls.  The boys are waiting for them to finish in the photo above.  Lots of symbolism, but here are the basics.  First, you need refrigerator crescent rolls (grave clothes), marshamallows (Jesus body), cinnamon and butter (spices and oils for annointing), and an oven (the grave).  Then you take the marshamallow, symbolizing Jesus' body, and annoint it for burial with the butter and cinnamon--very messy!  The marshmallow is wrapped up inside the crescent roll just as Jesus was wrapped in the burial cloth.  The resurrections rolls are then put into the oven/grave.  They bake for a little bit, and ....

When they open the rolls, the marshamallow is gone (it melts)!  He is not here, for He is risen!  They love it!
