Blizzard of 2013

This winter we have gotten QUITE our fill of snow (I believe we even got a rather substantial snow fall a few days after spring debuted!).  Winter storm, Nemo, dumped somewhere between 16-20 inches of snow on us on the weekend of February 8th.
Here's how it went.  Everyone was quite paranoid about the snow--no trace of bread, milk, or bananas in the grocery stores.  Jake only had a half day due to the hysteria; though, things didn't really pick up until about 2 or 3 p.m.  The snow was perfect for making snowmen.  I wish I had access to Jake's phone pictures b/c the final snowman was pretty cute.

Here was the snowman about three hours later--barely visible.

By nightfall the wind picked up a lot.  I believe there were hurricane force winds.  By 9:30 the lights were flickering, so Jake and I hopped into bed with hot chocolate and a board game just in case the power went out.  Well, it went out about five minutes later!
The next morning we could barely get out of our door due to the large drifts.  Josiah didn't enjoy this snow; it was still snowing hard and very windy.

Our neighbor was completely snowed in at both doors.  See her door on the right?  Some of the drifts had to be close to 3.5 feet tall.

I hung out inside with the boys while Jake started the arduous task of shoveling our walkways and driveway.  (I'm sure he shoveled hundreds of pounds of snow that entire weekend!)  We still didn't have any power, which meant no heat.  I did my best to bundle the kids up, but once Josiah's lips started turning blue, I knew it was time to go.  Jake's parents were gracious enough to come pick us up in their truck and let us stay with them.  We were without power for about three days, and then we headed home.

Here they are in the truck, checking out all the damage.  There were lots of branches and trees down.

We had quite the adventure!
