This his how Josiah ran around most of the week last week.
**This is a potty training post. So if you'd rather not read my musings on potty business, then here's your opportunity to exit this blog post!
Instead of using plastic pants, pull-ups, or even underwear, we decided to go pants-less. I like this method a lot, and I think it really helped the idea of an "accident" sink in. Plus, if you saw our apartment's 20-year-old carpet, you'd agree with us when we say we have nothing to lose! Other than the first and third day (which we primarily spent in the kitchen), I didn't have to clean up too many accidents.
We took a chance trying this potty thing because we thought he was showing signs of readiness. (He was purposely going to the bathroom each time we changed him. Plus he enjoyed going on the potty.) We've now given it one week. However, now I'm at the point where I don't know if we should continue.
On the plus side, he has few accidents, even when we're out and about. He's obviously getting the idea of holding it. However, he is not telling us when he has to go. I take that back, he tells us while he's going number two that he has to go! (That probably doesn't count!) So far we've been making him sit on the potty at regular intervals.
So I guess my main question: Is being able to communicate the "need to go" a learned skill, or is it just a maturity issue that will come over-time?
Potty training advice welcome!
