Franconia Notch

On the last day of summer, Jake and Josiah woke up early for a special hike in New Hampshire.  Jake had made a promise to Josiah that they would hike up a mountain together, and Josiah was very eager to "climb a mountain with daddy!!"

They hiked in Franconia Notch State Park, and the trail led them right along a lovely mountain stream.  Friends from church joined them.

Needless to say, the group didn't cover much ground.  Josiah frequently stopped to climb on rocks, pick up sticks, or inquire about the scenery.  They didn't even finish the trail!

An exhausted Josiah did a lot of falling and tripping on the way down the mountain, so dad ended up carrying him the rest of the way down!

They also stopped at a friend's orchard on the way home.  They brought home cider, apples for a pie, and a taste of their cider doughnut--yum!
