This was quite the humorous trip to Cape Cod. We had great weather for a day on the Cape, so we headed to the Dennis/Brewster area.
Our first stop was to picnic at Drummer Boy Park. However, the landmark windmill was dismantled due to repairs, so we just ate at the pavilion.
Shortly after we arrived at Paine's Creek. We claimed a spot away from as many people as we could, which means we tip-toed across the creek.
Andrew took a nap while Jake and the older two had a blast swimming.
It all seemed like a success until we realized one thing. How are we going to get back to our van? We tiptoed across the creek at first, but add a few hours and the tide came in fast! Now we would need to swim back to the van with three kids and all of our stuff! This Indiana girl needs a few lessons on tides! (ehem, just check the tide chart next time!)
Oh my. Plan B. Thankfully, Jake and I knew the area. We actually came here and explored the previous year for our anniversary. Jake decided to swim across with the two oldest boys, while I hiked with Andrew and our stuff the opposite way (back to the main road). Forty minutes later, I was still waiting for Jake and the boys only to have my suspicions confirmed. Jake had forgotten the van keys, so he and the boys had to hike up the road to meet me!
We had a good laugh at our awful planning and got some ice cream!
