Whoa! Not sure where the time went, but here we are, almost in our thirties and married for five whole years. It's been a fun, rocky, exhilarating five years, and I sure am glad the Lord gave me Jake.
We dropped the kids off with Jake's mom at their cottage and headed to Cape Cod for a short getaway. We went exploring this time because we always hear of Cape Cod's charm, but we don't really feel like we know where a lot of those charming pockets are hidden.
Above: Our first attempt at exploring was kind of a flop. We tried some nature trails at the Old Yarmouth historical society--not too exciting except for the fact that we saw a huge, unidentified bird and couldn't find our way off the trail.
Above: We drove on to Brewster and stopped at the old general store, the Brewster Store. It was still full of penny candies (er, nickel candies?) and other fun gifts. We got some ice cream next door and ate it on the front porch of the general store.
Our favorite find was in Brewster at the Natural History Museum. Behind the museum were trails along the Stony Brook Nature Preserve.
We found our mystery bird, the osprey. You can't see it well, but the osprey below was flying around with a fish he had just caught!
Then we walked along salt marshes out to the beach.
We ended our night with some really amazing food at the Scargo Cafe. I had baked scrod served over corn chowder and Jake had garlic shrimp over fried polenta.
