Lessons in Prayer

This was written about 4 weeks ago, right after hurricane Sandy hit:

It's taken 2 1/2 years, but Josiah is finally seeing the importance of prayer.  I must, must capture it on video because it is just the sweetest!

Tonight Josiah wanted to pray for James.  "Not James chapter 2," he told me, "but James."  To interpret, he did not want to pray for James from the Bible, but James the train from Thomas and Friends.  His prayer went something like this: "Dear God.  We thank you for this good day.  We thank you for James and that he got the bees on himself.  Thank you that he called himself the bees-knees.  Amen.  God."  (totally a Thomas movie reference to any of you who know that one.)

While that prayer sure was cute, the special part of the night was soon to follow.

After he prays, Josiah always asks for us to pray.  Tonight he wanted me to pray for the people on the airplane in the sky, the lady on the airplane, and for the lights.  I have no clue what the airplane is about, but we have been without power for the last day and half.  I prayed that the Lord would give us power again, a simple prayer.  We sang our usual song before bedtime, and do you know the Lord turned on our power right when we finished our song?  Josiah immediately shouted, "God turned the lights on!  Jesus turned the lights on!"  Wow, the Lord sure is amazing to give these lessons to a two-year old (and a twenty-something year old!).  The Lord chose to turn our power on with such immediacy that even a two-year old couldn't miss the connection!  How often we need to be reminded of the power of prayer!  God is good!

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

I'll leave you with a video of our little preacher, fresh from this evening!
