Eli's Birth Story

Little Eli came into this world on short notice. The only forewarning he gave was a few light contractions on Saturday night.  They were so light, in fact, I didn't even realize they were contractions at the time.  I am quite certain, though, that fruit snacks sent me into labor.  Yes, I started feeling those light contractions after racing through Target to get fruit snacks just before it closed Saturday evening.  ;)

Sunday morning, I awoke with more light contractions.  By 8:30 a.m., I told Jake I would probably stay home from church.  By 9:00 I told Jake he ought to stay home with me.  By 9:30, we were calling our parents to let them know we were headed to the hospital.  By 10:00, Jake's parents came to get Josiah, and we were off.  A couple of hours later at 12:42 p.m. after pushing no more than four times, the Lord gave us a very tiny Eli August!  He weighed only 5 lb 11 oz and was 17 and 3/4 inches long.

Eli spent some time in the incubator because his tiny little body wasn't maintaining heat, but other than that there were no complications.  The Lord was very good to give me a quick and safe delivery.  And we are even more thankful to finally have a sweet and healthy Eli August in our family!

His name means My God (Eli) is Great (August).   And, no, we didn't name him after bad-dad, Eli the priest (his name is actually a different word that means "ascended").  And Jake would like everyone to know that he is not name after Eli Manning (his full name is actually Elisha).  The name August was my grandfather's middle name.

Here are a few more of Eli's first moments.

This was Josiah's first time meeting his little brother.  He gave Eli the little dog rattle.

This was taken very late in the evening on Eli's first day.  It was one of the first times we finally saw his eyes open.

All dressed up and ready to leave the hospital!
