Translation => Jonah
For the past couple of nights, Jake has been reading the story of Jonah at bedtime. This Bible story is very relevant to our little boy as he and Jonah share a similar weakness. They both run away. Here's how the Bible story reads:
God gave Jonah orders,
But he ran to the sea.
A big fish swallowed him right up
Because he chose to flee.
Three days in its belly,
Then God said, "Spit him out!
Nineveh must hear the words
That I told you to shout!"
Jonah tried to run away,
But landed in the sea.
The lesson, here, is do not fear,
When God says, "Go"--agree!
Instead of coming when called, Siah has been running away and hiding from us.
Every. Single. Time.
The story of Jonah obviously made an impression on him as evidenced by the fact Josiah repeatedly told me this morning, "Donah. Run. Obey." I would even venture to say that he's done a better job of coming when called today; though, I know we have a long way to go with this particular power struggle!
If you are looking for a good Bible story book that is spot-on for an older baby or a young toddler, we recommend Really Woolly Bible Stories. This board book is written in poem format. Each Bible story is very short, very easy to understand, and, most importantly, it shares truths that fall in line with the actual Bible story. Surprisingly, this is the only early board book we've found that includes a story about Jesus death and resurrection! We found our copy at Barnes and Noble.
