This momma was worn out after our trip to boy's camp/Indiana. But we rested for a week, and drove up to Maine to one of the most beautiful spots in New England, Acadia National Park! I'm pretty sure we were crazy for taking on this adventure so soon, but seriously--what fun it was!
This was our camp site at the Blackwoods Campground--full of pine trees, gravel paths, pebbles, and mossy boulders. It kind of reminded me of something out of Lord of the Rings. :)
Jake got to try out a new man toy--his hatchet!
After setting up camp we took our first little hike to Jordan Pond. Do you see the aptly named North and South Bubbles behind us?
Next, we have someone who made camping SO much easier for us--our friend, Carolyn!
She helped out in so many ways, especially at meal times (one of the toughest times for a mom when camping). AND she faithfully did our camp dishes every meal!
They had a neat little path around Jordan Pond. Most of it was made of these large wooden planks.
We got the above Kelty kid carrier off Craigslist. What a help it was!
This was back at our camp site the next chilly morning.
We drove up Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the North Atlantic seaboard and the first place to view the sunrise in the U.S.
We had views of the Atlantic, Maine, and all the little islands around.
We had lunch on top of the mountain.
Thunder Hole before (above) and after (below) a crash of waves. We didn't make it at the best time to see the waves crash (dependent on the tide). If we had, we may have gotten wet!
Our final morning at the park we took a short hike to Otter Cove to get every last ounce of energy out of the boys before our long ride home. Though we didn't see any otters, I think we spotted their food source (all the mussels above).
Can you spot the rocks above and below?
Notice Eli (above) with one shoe. I debated over how many pairs of shoes to bring for Eli. Against my better judgement, I brought one pair of old crocs for him. Of course, they broke. Jake did a quick fix with his knife and some string and we made due. However, it was just loose enough for it to fall off repeatedly!
And here is Josiah stopping for a rest along the Quarry Trail as we went back to our car. Both boys took a lot of rests on the way back. I think we succeeded in giving them a workout.
This trip really whet our appetite to see more National Parks. Too bad most are so far away. Someday!
