Fourth Anniversary

Here we are celebrating four years of marriage!

On the night of our anniversary, June 27th, we went out for a quick dinner date.

Then Jake went away to a wedding for a few days.  When he returned, we finished with a day trip to Boston. We went to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

We both really enjoyed the paintings of our founding fathers. John Singleton Copley painted many of these. Samuel Adams is above and Paul Revere below.  Notice how Copley painted Revere with a silver teapot in hand.  We also saw many of Revere and his son's pieces of silver (they were silversmiths by trade).

This painting was absolutely huge--in fact, it was too large.  It was originally commissioned to be hung in North Carolina's senate chamber, but the artist, Thomas Sully, had the dimensions wrong!

It was neat to see a few painting by Picasso.

I enjoyed the impressionist paintings by Monet and Manet.

There were even a few by Vang Gogh.

They had several of Monet's paintings from his "Water Lilies" series.  They also had a fun Samurai exhibit.  I'm sure we didn't see half of the museum though!

We had some Vietnamese food for lunch.  Afterwards we walked to check out the Boston Public Library, the first public library in the United States.  It was three floors of fanciness.  Our absolute favorite spot, though, was a dark room packed full of rare books.  Of course, the display shelves showcased first printings of Robinson Crusoe and the like.  However, the forgotten, yet rich, history of the Almighty's working in our country was irreverantly forgotten on the shelves below.  There were rows and rows of hymnals, sermons, and commentaries dating back to the 1620's and 1700's.  If we had more time, I would have loved to have sit and read Fox's Book of Martyrs or sermons from Jonathan Edwards or George Whitefield!

On our walk back to our car we had some ice cream from Emack and Bolios.  It was a fun day with Jake!
